Interior wood staining

Interior Wood Staining and Finishing

Interior wood — trim, doors, beams, staircases, tongue-and-groove ceilings — is often the most beautiful thing in a Hudson Valley home. Done right, staining brings that character forward instead of hiding it.

Even absorption

Enhance, restore, and protect natural wood

Our process focuses on proper preparation — sanding, cleaning, and conditioning the wood for even stain absorption — followed by high-quality stains and protective finishes tailored to each project.

Wood takes stain unevenly unless it is prepared to take it evenly. Conditioning is the stage that stops a blotchy result on softer species, and it is the stage that gets skipped when a job is priced by the hour.

Stain is then followed by a protective topcoat — polyurethane, water-based finish, or oil — chosen for the surface and how it will be used.

Natural, modern, or custom

Older homes and original woodwork

Many Hudson Valley homes still have original woodwork. We approach it carefully — stripping only what's necessary and preserving the details that make the house what it is.

Whether you're looking for a natural tone that keeps the wood honest, a deeper modern look, or a custom color match to existing woodwork, we test samples on your actual wood before committing.

What it costs

What interior staining costs

Interior staining is priced by the amount of woodwork and the finish system, with dry time between coats built into the schedule. The guide covers what drives the number.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Can you match new wood to existing stained woodwork?
Yes. We sample and adjust until the new work reads as one with the old.
Do you finish over stain?
Yes. Stain is followed by a protective topcoat — polyurethane, water-based finish, or oil — chosen for the surface and its use.
How long does interior staining take?
It depends on the amount of woodwork and dry time between coats. A clear schedule is provided before work begins.
