Exterior House Painting in the Hudson Valley
Hudson Valley exteriors take a beating — freeze-thaw winters, humid summers, and a lot of wood siding that needs real protection. Full exterior repaints, including siding, trim, fascia, soffits, porches, and doors, using weather-resistant coatings built for New York's changing climate.
Preparation
The finish is only as good as what's under it
That's why our process is weighted toward preparation: power washing, scraping, sanding, caulking, priming, and repairing wood before the first coat goes on.
Peeling is almost never the paint giving up. It is the paint losing its grip on a surface that was never sound — an open joint, a failed caulk line, a fastener bleeding through. Every one of those gets dealt with before a finish coat goes anywhere near the house.
Where we find rot or damaged siding, we repair it. Doing that in-house means one crew and one schedule, with no gap between the carpentry and the painting.

The sequence
What's included in our exterior painting
01Power washing
Dirt, mildew, and chalking removed so the coating has something to bond to.
02Scraping and sanding
Loose or failing paint taken back to a sound surface.
03Wood rot repair
Siding and trim replacement as needed — see Repairs & Light Carpentry.
04Caulking
Joints, seams, and gaps sealed against water.
05Priming
Spot or full priming for adhesion.
06Two coats of premium exterior paint
Benjamin Moore Aura or Sherwin-Williams Emerald and Duration, depending on the surface.
07Daily cleanup
And protection of landscaping throughout.
Older and historic homes
Many of the homes we paint are more than a hundred years old
In Rhinebeck, Hudson, Kingston, and Saugerties, older wood, layered paint, and original details need a different approach than new construction.
Sound coatings are a substrate, not a problem; the work goes back to solid material only where the old paint has let go, and the transitions are feathered so a century-old profile is not flattened. Original mouldings, sash and porch detail are finished by hand rather than buried.
